Andrea F. Nuciforo Jr. was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on February 26, 1964, the second of the five children of Andrea F. Nuciforo and Irene G. Wojtkowski. He grew up in Pittsfield, attending the Pittsfield public schools, and graduating from Taconic High School in Pittsfield in June, 1982.
Nuciforo attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, graduating in 1986 with a B.A. in English. He went on to Boston University School of Law, completing his J.D. in 1989. After completing his law school, he passed the bar exam in Massachusetts and New York, and accepted a position as a law clerk with Chief Judge Frank H. Freedman of the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. A practicing attorney since 1992, Nuciforo has worked with a number of law firms in Boston and in Pittsfield.
In 1996, voters in the Berkshire district elected Nuciforo to represent them in the State Senate. He served with distinction in that capacity for ten years, completing his service in 2007. He currently serves as Register of Deeds for the Berkshire Middle District in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, having been elected to serve in November 2006. He is a member of the board of trustees of the Colonial Theatre Inc. in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and is active in a number of non-profit organizations.
Nuciforo enjoys outdoor sports, including skiing, hiking and mountain biking. He especially enjoys hiking in the Mt Greylock State Reservation, and on the Massachusetts portions of the Appalachian Trail. He has played men’s ice hockey for years throughout western Massachusetts.
He enjoys spending time with family, including his brothers John and Mark, his sisters Sara and Amy, and his extended family.
Family Tradition of Public Service
Nuciforo’s family has been involved in public service and civic affairs throughout western Massachusetts for more than 50 years. His father Andrea Sr. served as state senator for the Berkshire district from 1965 to 1973. Gov. Francis Sargent appointed the elder Nuciforo First Justice of the Berkshire Probate & Family Court in Pittsfield, in which capacity he served until his death in 1994.
Nuciforo’s father and mother enjoy remarks by Gov. Sargent prior to the swearing-in ceremony of Nuciforo as judge of the Probate & Family Court.
His mother was very active in politics and civic affairs in the Berkshire area, working as a realtor, as a member of the board of the Pittsfield Figure Skating club, and as a volunteer at the Boys & Girls Club, among many other activities.
Senator Nuciforo joins his uncle Thomas C. Wojtkowski on the floor of the House of Representatives to present a citation recognizing Tom’s 30 years of public service.
Other family members involved in public service in western Massachusetts include his maternal uncle Thomas C. Wojtkowski, who serve for 18 years as state representative for Pittsfield and the town of Hancock. Mr. Wojtkowski served as the chairman of the Judiciary Committee for several years during his tenure in the House of Representatives.
His aunt, Anne Everest Wojtkowski, served two terms as mayor of Pittsfield from 1988 to 1992. She also served many years as a member of the school committee in Pittsfield, and for more than 30 years as a professor of mathematics and engineering at Berkshire Community College.
